The situation
The protocol assumed its English narrative — "institutional-grade yields" — would translate. Validation showed the opposite: the Chinese-speaking community read it as marketing-speak and cared about two entirely different things — audited security history and sustainable yield mechanics. Entering with the wrong story would have burned the one first impression this community gives.
What we did
Validate. Message testing through seed KOC accounts compared the team's preferred narrative against a mechanics-first framing. The mechanics framing won decisively in engagement quality. We rebuilt the entire content plan around it before a single dollar of launch budget moved.
How the launch ran
Per the Chinese-speaking market playbook, research-style articles in top Chinese crypto media established substance first. Only then came the KOL waves: respected analytical voices whose endorsement carries weight, followed by mid-tier amplification and KOC presence in the Telegram and WeChat groups where DeFi discussion actually happens. An AMA series with the protocol's founders — with live translation — closed the trust loop.
Why it worked
This community rewards substance and punishes hype faster than any other market we operate in. Leading with mechanics, letting credible analysts carry the story, and being present in the community's own channels — in its own language — is the entire game. The sequence came from hundreds of prior Chinese-speaking campaigns; the protocol just didn't have to pay for those lessons twice.
